It is not surprising why Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek, a science fiction enterprise that grew so magnificently it has its own cult following, is still sizzling hot more than 40 years after its inception in 1966. From its early years struggling for airtime under Desilu Productions (now Paramount Pictures), Star Trek has snowballed into a multi-billion dollar industry, producing not only television series, films, and books, but also spinning off into Star Trek merchandise that are, undoubtedly, selling as quickly as hot cakes on a sidewalk.
